A violin in the Fado

Um Violino no Fado, The Album

Fado is a Portuguese music genre characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics with sentiments of fatefulness, & melancholia but also of love and passion. The music is usually linked to the Portuguese word Saudade which symbolizes the feeling of loss. In 2010 Natalia made a very important artistic decision and began work on her Album Um Violino no Fado. It was a project with a very personal and original concept. She would replace the traditional voice of Fado by some of the great singers and interpret them with her Violin. Natalia’s desire was to create a heartfelt tribute to the classical virtuoso performers and to uncover her own “Alma Fadista” (Fado´s Soul). The project has been an incredible journey and the reception and reviews have been off the charts.

Natalia’s “live” premier took place in Lisbon TEDx, a worldwide event where select participants are invited to share their original works. Natalia had the privilege of opening the event with “Um Violino no Fado.”

Natalia’s album was awarded in October of 2010 with the Revelation Award granted by Gala de Leiria, an annual event of significant cultural prestige which distinguishes many of the top national artists.
